Night Cycling!

HELLLOOOOOO EVERYBODY! =D

Sorry that this post only came on Sunday BUTTTT seriously, hall life has been awesomely wonderful (: My life becomes normal when I'm back at home.

Before I blog about Culture night, I'm going to blog about Night Cycling! =D Cos it was SOOOOO much fun!

It was actually drizzling before night cycling began and some of us were really quite afraid that it would be cancelled. We were afraid that it would either be cancelled or we wouldn't have as much fun as we could have. But neither scenario happened actually (:

Briefing started a little later than expected but it was okay cos that gave us time to .... CAMWHORE! HAHA! Before we even left KR, we were already spamming photos with the poor camera, heee! We were camwhoring everywhere we went, okay except when we were choosing bikes.

So off A block went, signalling the start of night cycling! We were lucky that the rain had stopped! The first half an hour or so of the journey was a little tough cos everyone was trying to get used to their bicycles, plus the road was a little wet from the rain still, and we were at Clementi Road which meant that there was a lot of uphills to cycle. But the uphills meant that there was a downhill to look forward too, so it was quite shiok! =D Eh, but scary too, cos it was a busy time at the roads =X

Anyway, not long after, we arrived at the first pit stop which was a makan place! Don't really know where it was but I know it was opposite Beauty World Centre. HAHA, I only noticed that it was opposite Beauty World cos we kept singing songs at the bus stop which was opposite it. Anyway, I think A block was damn blessed and lucky to be the first block to flag off cos didn't have to fight with the other blocks for seats =P Heh! And as usual, once we sat down and ordered, we... CAMWHORE! I guess the one of the main reasons why we camwhore so much cos A block has our own A block photocomm HAHA. And the chairperson of the A Blk photocomm has a DSLR ;) Haha. As we were about to leave with a happy stomach, it started to rain! =/ Actually, come to think of it, it was a good thing that it rained before we left. But anyway, so we all took shelter at the bus stop opposite Beauty World where we started our A block night singing! Hahaha, I swear we were damn retarded! We keep singing the alphabet song with the word "Papaya", "Tomato" and "Potato"! Hahaha! By right, the rain should have dampened our mood and spirits. But it didn't. I think we had more fun and laughter because of the rain.. Did I mention that we were so high that we took pictures with the CISCO police before we set off? HAHA!

When the rain finally stopped, we set off to our next station. But this time, Audrey and I decided to take the tandem bike together instead of the individual bike. Everyone was laughing at us cos they said it would be very hiong for two girls but HA HA, we cycled perfectly well! In fact, I thought we could cycle faster with the tandem bike. We cycled so well that we could even HTHT on the bikes -.- HAHA! And as we were cycling, we started singing. All the hits singalong song came out. I think it started with me just singing Taylor Swift's You belong to me really badly. Then my neighbour started to join in, and soon after, everyone just started to sing along. Maybe it was our bad singing, cos it started to rain again! And we had to seek shelter at a petrol kiosk. While we were waiting for the rain to subside a little, we camwhored again! ;) Cos you see, it is a little hard to camwhore when you are cycling eh? HAHA. I thought one of the best part of night cycling came when we were asking the A blkers if they wanted to continue cycling in the rain or wait for the rain to stop before continuing. And everyone's answer, and I mean everyone, was "CONTINUE MAN!" It was such an awesome feeling, to see the block so united and so undeterred by the rain. The rain couldn't stop us from having our fun. And so after a 10 mins break at the petrol kiosk, we continued our way into the night, with more cycling and singing (:

After 2 hours, Clara and Shermaine led us to this random building for a rest. The only reason why I mentioned that it was 2 hrs cos we were told that we had been cycling for 2 hrs since the last pit stop. And everyone was quite shocked by that face cos it really didn't feel like it had been 2 hrs, it felt more like 30 mins instead. HAHA. That was how much fun we were having in the rain man (: And the best part was that, there was prbly not a single time in the journey where we heard anyone complaining or not having fun. It was like, A block was on drugs man! We were highhh on each other's presence (and singing)! HEH! At this pit stop, we had a major major camwhoring session! Haha and a stupid thing happened to me, the FYFs were taking their FYFs photos and I started crying -.- Cos there were so many FYFs in our block and many of them were seniors whom really play and bond with us damn well. Just the thought of them leaving actually made me cry =/ AWWW. Anyway then we were off. Next stop, SINGAPORE FLYER!

I swear this is one of the most beautiful pit stop! Right under Singapore Flyer, on the F1 racetrack. And like I said, A block is really really blessed to be the first block to set off. Cos we had the whole place to ourselves to camwhore and sing before B block came! HAHA. We camwhored under the beautiful singapore flyer, we sang by the "river", this is the life man (: Then we had tau huey and youtiao. And the tau huey was still warm, damn impressive! Haha! It was already 4ish in the morning by this time, and still, all of us were on a high! (: I swear, it's something about singing that can really bond people and keep the spirits high. Imagine all of us, including girls!, were soaked and wet, wearing wet squishy socks and feeling cold from the weather, but yet, still high, energetic and enjoying each other's company. That's what I call KR spirit shown in A block (: It was so heartwarming..

The next pit stop was really nice too, one of my favourite place in singapore. The Tanjong Rhu Bridge thing behind National Stadium. And the best part of that place was that the bridge has an "A" structure. And the weather was soooo awesome! Cool breeze + great company = camwhore!!!!! HAHA! By this time, we were running out of songs to sing and hence, we had to switch to Chinese and emo songs. HAHA! Shortly after the other blocks came, we left for our final destination, ECP! Which was not too far away! We reached ECP at about 530am, which was way before the scheduled time.
Ate Macs together before we finally left (:

Night Cycling o9 was really one of the best nights I had in KR. Easily, my favouritest night (: The spirit, love, unity shown during night cycling was simply beyond what words can describe. It's really not what you do, but who you do it with. And I'm glad it's with A block, and in KR that I do it with (:

The Rise of the New Batch: HPB 0910 !!!

It's been a year!

With the passing of time, changing roles, leading individual lives, every past seems so once upon a time, but one thing's for sure (or at least for me): the vivid memories of HPB0809 still lingers on in my mind. And i'm not shy to say that, or shout it out loud. I'm proud to say it actually :) Go ahead and laugh if you think that i just cant move on. But hey dude, there's always room for fond old memories even if we make space for new ones!

I treasure these friendships a lot. The team of HPB0809 became part of my life from day one. And I must say, truly no regrets! Thank you Zhe Bin for recognising my potential and personality to be in the team and 'pestered' me to hop onboard last minute (I didnt even go for interview). What a wild ride it was, but what great fun i had! That's why i say i'm more of a hall person, because I grew so affectionately to the 13 + 1 of them. E Block still rocks my socks though :)

HPB0809 is really one happening committee, in my point of view. We worked in synergy, and created resonance.

- Remember the days when we brought our laptops to meeting and started msn-ing/facebooking and even L4D-ing, and ZB figured it wasnt a good move after all haha, but all's for GoogleDocs mannn, and i love GoogleDocs;

- Remember the times right before OpenHouse during booth making in KR and at SRC: ZB randomly played 'Obama's Elf' when we were all serious and we ended up kaopeh-ing him. And when we had visitors like 4K and Khairul to help us with the booth in which we laughed at 4K's video skills and tortured Khairul by playing 'Leg Hair' (meaning pasting masking tape on his hairy leg)

- Remember the whole holiday period in preparation for Blueblood: we had difficulty waking up in the mornings for meetings and were late without fail; we get hungry really fast and paused meetings for lunch, in which we took one hour to decide where to eat; we resumed meetings in the late afternoon and everyone felt like napping; we stopped meetings again because we were hungry and wanted dinner, in which another hour was wasted in deciding the venue; after dinner either its another short meeting or we just conducted our daily dosage of sports and entertainment (L4D in SR2, badminton, korean dramas, guitar and songs, our own bbq etc) until after midnight.. and then we cant wake up the next morning. It'a a damned vicious cycle!

- Remember the emo moments and goodbyes?

- Remember our laserquest?

- Remember Huh-Simi-Anzua at starbucks?

- Remember Sean's Transformers and Diane's Piggy?

We're all a bunch of active and on the ball people, it's a wonder how we can tuuuuuuuu for hours because we cannot decide on simple things like WHERE TO EAT?!

***

Definitely a splendid year spent with a superb committee, but the members of this superb committee do not / will not do it altogether all over again.
So that spells like a new batch of fresh faces, so let me proudly present HPB 0910 - a bunch of crazier people than HPB 0809 !!!

hui min, clement, nadiah, jia yun, jing hong, bryan, carolyn, valmond, darren, bora, jane, yong hwee, alywin, melkhoo, cheryl (jcrc attached)

I see potential in this team too. If not, why are these people chosen in the first place right? They went through stringent selections.
So far so good. All was crazy and fun. But it is only when work kick in do we see whether the team will withstand the hardships.
On my side, I will try not to compare these two wonderful comms of mine, just as i told ZB not to; but instead highlight the plus points to learn from:)

FIRST MEETING! 21 October 2009

to the 13 of you:
Hope the first meeting was great and that we all know one another a bit better now. If not there's still 8 to 9 months of seeing one another :)
While we have fun, always not forget of what we're supposed to do.
The challenge to you is to perform as well as HPB0809, if not outperform.
Keep up the energy, keep the ideas coming in, im sure we'll excel.
This is the beginning of a comm of fun, plenty of hardwork and lifelong friendships!
But it can only be ourselves who will make it all happen...

♥ With love,
MEL

"see you at next meeting: 29 October 2009, Thursday, 10pm at SR2
come prepared and dont be late
oh, and erm, dont have to come with half-filled stomachs already"

Hello all! After the resurfacing of photos taken in camp blueblood, it's like sort of a sign that we should update this blog to let everyone know of the happenings in KR. =D well well, ALOT have definitely happened since the last post with was at the end of FWOC phase one.

It has indeed been an enjoyable journey with everyone through the orientation month. its the the end of the second week in sept and the 5th week in school. YES SCHOOL HAVE STARTED EVERYONE! and projects and term papers are starting to stream in. =/ start those engines and remember that we're all NUS students ultimately. =)

just short snippets of the past month. We've just had our annual DinnerNDance of the theme Hollywood Movies. (similar to our CBB theme dont you think =p) It's the time of the year where everyone in hall get to dress up in funky attire and support our pageant contestants who will showcase their various talents on stage! My table went in the theme of Casino Royale. =p

Inter-block games (IBG) also ended last week. I hope everyone enjoyed the games played and have indeed bonded more closely to their respective blocks. The block that won the champions trophy will be announced during TGIO,THANK GOD IT'S OVER. It is a hall event where KR rockers will showcase their multi-talented vocal ranges with a wide variety of song genres. An AWESOME show not to be missed!

Going back a few weeks, Social Relations Unit (SRU) had organized an annual hall bash at THE FORBIDDEN CITY, at clarke quay. That was the first time that our pageant contestants was introduced formally to us! hot girls and guys yo.

well, this is as far as i could remember. heh. note: short term memory. =x

hopefully photos will be up soon. looking back, it has indeed been a fulfilling stay thus far in Kent Ridge with the new freshies and returning seniors.=) As more activites are coming our way and our studies are reaching mid-crunch point, please do take care of your health and SLEEP EARLY!

cheers,
Cheryl

HEY ALL PASSIONATE READERS! its finally the end of fwoc phase one.=D Hope everyone have been keeping themselves hydrated and healthy, fwoc is far from over! I'm currently in hafiz's room typing this out as we reminisced about the times we spent with our OGs. And next up to look forward to is FLAG day and the ultimate RAG day, where we will compete against all the other halls to keep the shield where it belongs, in KR! whooohoo, can't wait!

And also, i bet many of you readers out there are fretting over is the...DATING GAME! A game that defines KR FWOC from other hall's orientation. It is a time to allow freshies to get to know their seniors much better through small appreciations notes, decorating the doors of seniors with heartfelt poems and chocolates, waking up early in the morning to buy mac donald's breakfast for that special one, and staying up late to do rag rush together to allowing more bonding and heart-to-heart talks!

So to all those that have found a potential date, jiayou! i wish you all the best in snagging him/her. And to those who haven't choosen any seniors to date yet, fret not! KR is filled with loads of warm and friendly seniors who are willing to date you! just go to http://www.kentridge.nus.edu.sg/fwoc and check out what happened during fwoc through the awesome photos that have been snapped.

cheers,
Cheryl =)

andre calls this a dream on the edge. or something like that. but for me, it's just simply the hpb journey.

so here's a tribute to HPB 08/09.

i kept hearing the names before i sleep
those pictures in my head says i'm in too deep
so i'll rewind the scene and see it once more
and drown myself in this encore

the first was awkward, quiet and messy
the makeup on our faces were really funny
we left that day still not knowing all names
but all that was just about to change

we started as many, we ended as one
we won't forget how this journey begun
we'll tell our stories and people will know
we'll keep these memories wherever we'll go

we built our house with metal and wood
we painted it blue, added our love like a real house should
people stopped and stood in awe
we tasted success and wanted more

then came our camp, for six months we toiled
down to those three days, all our efforts boiled
the smile on the faces were plain to see
the campers were happy and so were we

we started as many, we ended as one
we won't forget how this journey begun
we'll tell our stories and people will know
we'll keep these memories wherever we'll go
