The holidays are over, and Sem 2 has officially begun!

We sure hope you're settling well in school so far. It is great to see Kent Ridge Hall come back to life again after the vacation break :)

Anyway, it's currently the Inter- Hall Games (IHG) season, and boy, things are getting pretty exciting around here isn't it? Day after day, we watch our Kent Ridgeans break out in sweat as they play against the other halls in various sports. We hear our supporters cheer their heart out, and watch the Kent Ridge flag being swung with pride. Hats off to the awesome Sports Management Unit (SMU) for hype-ing all of us up, constantly bringing us updates of IHG results, and driving us to and fro :D (Haha l-o-l to the van)

I wonder who will emerge champion this year? Whatever it is, it's great to feel the spirit of KR in the atmosphere. (K K K K RRRRR!)

Anyway, if you haven't noticed by now, this blog has officially been resurrected! Do check back often for more juicy updates about what's up in KR.

A Little Bit of Love

Before the new comm takes over this blog, just wanna grab this chance to express my love for HPB 10/11, 'cause I've been procrastinating waaaaay too long already.

Let's start with a walk down memory lane, shall we?

The first time we really sat down and spent time with each other almost every day was during the December holidays I guess, where we filmed our promotional video The Adventures of Dorkie. I remember us saying we wanted it to be a success, but somehow only got around to releasing two episodes of it.. haha. But it's okay! 'Cause we had alot of fun filming it :D That was when Oli and Jon were still with us too! And after that we had Ameen for lunch at 4 plus 5 pm in E Blk lounge hahaha.

Then came Open House, where we had a record number of 800 sign ups! Joyce and Choongz showed off their prowess by taking on 3-6 guys at a time, super zai please. I wanted to upload videos but I've no idea how to download from Facebook, so make do with these two links, hope they work!

After Finals in Sem2 was when the bonding really started! I can safely say that those two weeks or so in A Blk were one of the best times of my life in KR thus far. Seeing each other almost 24/7 is no joke man, funny how we never got sick of each other.

I miss seeing this outside my door. Love how the girls gathered in Joyce/Laura/Choongz's room having late night hthts (:

Daily meetings in SR2 which were SUPPOSED to start in the mornings, but I don't remember having any in the morning at all HAHA. One of the times where we were all either in blue or red, unintentionally coordinated :D And oops, I guess I got too bored hehe.

We cooked together,

camwhored, (actually this was in SPR, no?)

and even went running together! Health Promotion Board FTW! Fyi, I DO NOT ever run. So you guys had the honour of running with ME. Okay la, more like I brisk walked with Malan and Nad hahaha.

To top it all off, some of us even found true love aww ♥

Then came Camp BlueBlood - A KRazy Tale. Our baby. Those three days were HELL I tell you, what with the lack of sleep and all. I think a lot of y'all were damn scared of my angsty-ness on the first night while we were packing the shirts, especially Meiyi and Joyce HAHA.

Night before camp, practising my maiden choreography for the last time. Thanks guys for all the effort in learning the mass dance! So so proud of y'all for going up on stage hehe :D Thanks Dorkie for teaching with me, though I didn't say much hahaha. Sorry la, stage fright, can't help it D:

Pure ecstacy <3

In the blink of an eye, camp was over. I remember staying in the gym and waving bye to the campers, we were competing to see who could remember the most names hahaha. And I think we scared the freshies from the way we shouted their names out HAHA. Camp ended waaay too quickly, it kinda felt too surreal? And I know we all felt this sense of emptiness after that. Whatever we had been working so hard for ended in a flash. Needless to say, the sense of satisfaction from seeing those happy faces and how bonded the BGs are, till today, is insurmountable. All those late night torturous sand-modellings, lunches & dinners at ginza/clementi/ameen, our many inside jokes, I miss all that. While I don't exactly want to go through the whole tiring process of planning again, I'd do anything to relive those times again. Sounds contradictory, but I just don't mind spending time with you all laaaa.

Thank you HPB, for everything. Thank you our three heads for having faith in me and letting me join this awesome comm, thank you all for accepting this angsty bimbo (but I'm not the most bimbotic) here, thank you for all the wonderful memories we've created together (:

Despite our diversities, I'm so glad we managed to gel together and stick through all the shit thrown at us. I think I wouldn't have got to know a lot of you if I never joined HPB. Thanks for letting me know that Glendon is not as kok as he seems, Malan whom I always thought was some dao kia (fine, me too k hahaha) but actually who is SUPER responsible and the most anything person ever, Choongz the super high (and vulgar) bimbo with her awesome planning of games, Goonting whom I was initally afraid of 'cause he had some spiderman hair etc etc. I'm too lazy to list down for everyone haha oopsie daisy!

You guys are one of my reasons why I wanna stay and command if I could. It is really heartwarming to know that I have this group of friends whom I know I can always fall back on, bitch together with (our fb/whatsapp group ROCKS), basically just do everything together with. It is not so much of the comm, more of the people in it that I'm so thankful for. I'm quite sure we'd work well together no matter which comm we're in. It's the happiness and this warm fuzzy feeling you guys give me whenever we gather together, be it supporting each other, outings or even just a simple group photo after hall events. Oh, and not forgetting CLUBBING together, remember Laura and her bareback flower print dress? Hehe :D

I'm so glad we still gather for meals once in a while (walao why am I always the planner?!?!?), and our fb group remains as active as ever, the top 3 at my list hahaha. Digression: please hor, I'm not planning the next outing, someone else take over!! And make it a FULL comm outing!! As much as I miss those days in SR2, it suffices to know that we're always here for each other (: Thanks for making me feel a sense of belonging to KR (:

It feels almost surreal getting Smses from some freshies on advice for tips on scoring during HPB interviews. WOW it has been a grand total of TWO years since I last stepped into SR1 for comm interviews. I remember fearing for my life – not sure what to say, not sure whether to expose all my commitments, not sure whether to be honest about my own doubts of being able to cope with my work, not sure if I was that “crazy KR person” who every senior seemed to be, not sure if these scary seniors would be judging me from head to toe – they didn’t even know me, how to make them know ‘me’ for me??

Well for one, remember, WE ARE ALSO HUMANS. Though some may seem inhuman (in terms of superwoman strength *cougL cougA cougU cougR cougA”); over-bimbz (choongz); over-sexy (gab and ah liew) etcetcetc. There’s no way we aren’t humans like you and I – we’ll listen to your concerns, questions and Bora and Marianne and Joyce have super powerful strengths to access your deepest and darkest concerns and deal with them accordingly.

Number 2: BE HONEST: if you aren’t sure you are fully capable of anything, just voice it out. There’s a reason why all of us are in KR – we’re not here for people to always praise and reassure us – life would be so boring. We are here to learn new things, to get trashed and then get better. Why are we surrounded by so many people? We are here to fall and rise because of their encouragement. I wouldn’t be able to learn from my mistakes if there was no one to tell me in the first place.

Number 3: ASK YOUR HEART. Why are you here in SR1?

Why do you want to be in HPB? If you are here because your neighbour and your floormate signed up too, ok maybe... but good luck to you when this question is posed during interview, cos that’s not convincing enough. If you are here because your senior joined before and seems to be having so much fun... what happens if your own experience don’t match up to your expectations? Are you going to ask that senior to clear up the mess? Worst still, are you going to throw in the towel? Are you ready for the commitment?

Number 4: HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF- confidence doesn’t need to be loud, confidence doesn't need to be show-y, confidence doesn’t need to be proven. Have belief in yourself, answer the questions with true honesty and you have won half battle. :D

Lastly, we have to be realistic... last I heard, 34 applications..for 12 spaces..? All I can say, from my 2 plus years of being in KR, it really doesn’t matter. You can always apply next year as a senior member (no one said seniors weren’t allowed); you can always bring the ‘HPB –spirit’ you know you have to your other comms, your own blocks, your own floor. It’s a lot better than imagined.

Having said all that, even though my time is up and I need to stand aside already (put bluntly haha) I really really am so excited to see the next comm up, because it’s going to be such a fantastic experience, and let this interview (successful or not) be the start of not just a HPB experience, but a KR one. :D

Obviously, this post is semi-redundant because we know that you already want to join HPB (WHO DOESN'T???)

But incase you aren't already convinced or won over (or have already applied), here are the

TOP 6 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN HPB:

1. You LOVE KR.

And you know it.

You've loved every part of your KR freshie experience and you've never looked back since the day you stepped in. Deep down you know that after a hard day of school, amidst midterms or assignments, there's always the usual bunch of familiar people that you can fall back on to talk cock, eat supper, chill with, be there for you and put a smile on your face :)

2. You've had the time of your life during CBB and you'd like to recreate that.

Face it- Camp Blueblood 2011 (and all the previous years too) was probably one of your best and most memorable camp memories ever. Even if you didn't go for it, it doesn't matter.. We're sure you would've heard all your KR friends talking about how awesome it was, or have heard the occasional "Eh, Hua Dulan take photo!" or "Pockyhunters photo now!" and wished you were part of that Krazy Tale too :) Wouldn't you like to do that all over again - but take it to even greater heights?

3. You directly INFLUENCE (FIRST-HAND) the next intake of freshies. i.e YOU DETERMINE THE FUTURE OF KR. The culture, the people, the atmosphere. What makes KR, KR.

YES, YOU ARE THE FACE OF KR. starting from OPEN HOUSE, you meet and greet them, you get to know them, their interests, their strengths, and then you handpick them to come to CBB. THE POWER LIES IN YOUR HANDS.

4. Undeniably, it is definitely one of the most HAPZPOPZBOOMZ committees in KR.

Okay, this might probably sound like a superficial or shallow reason to join but come on, which other com promises (yes 100% hardwork) but also 100% fun, laughter and joy with the most capable people around? Looking at the likes of HPB10/11... can we say more?

5. You're guaranteed 11 (+3) friends-to-keep.

That's the real value of HPB. The true takeaway. Is not what you learn or who you bring in or what you do. It's WHO you're doing it with that matters. And these 11 people are those that transcend block/faculty etc. Friends that transcend good times, and bad times. Friends that last for a lifetime.

6. YOU KNOW YOU'RE AWESOME AND HPB WANTS YOU.

You're crazy. You're the steady worker. Or the bubbly outgoing one. You may love making pretty posters.. You're one person that can invent the most outrageous war games ever...or maybe you have the world's most winning smile that you know will land you at least 100 sign-ups at Open House. Our Journey. Start to End.

It’s been nearly a month since CBB ended. Everything is now locked up in a little compartment of my head. Nothing comes to mind until I sit down and really think about it. Where did all the time go? It’s a special feeling, something I’ve never experienced before. The sense of achievement; simply from making people, happy. Smiles on everyone’s faces at the end of a long tiring day. Stories u hear from the facils about their craziness and fun. I trust that they are true. So many moments in my head that come up during random conversations with other Kent Ridgeans, always along the line “Oh yeah I remember that!” followed by a round of laughter. I remember plenty of stuff. I wish I could say the same when it comes to school work though. Bottom line is we SHOWED SOME STANDARD!

I hate camp endings. The final gathering that always happens, saying what u needed to say; except I bet no one really did say the things they wanted to say on the mpsh stage, at least I know I didn’t. So this is me saying thanks, slow and simple with all this post-CBB time we’ve got; with these words meant personally for every single one of you =) A good opportunity to thank those two crazy ladies overseas as well.

I remember the start so well, our first meeting. A few lucky people managed to save their facebook. Jon was one of them and I remember him taking lead at screwing people over on facebook aha. Olivia still owes me her facebook. I remember Glendon and me going all the way to C block, turning on her comp with the help of the older Olivia and trying to get back at her then. I remember Joyce and Joseph’s overnight facebook relationship stirring an epic shitstorm of comments. I was too busy blocking Joyce from the computer I forget about Oli’s forfeit. I remember Laura’s relationship change gathering like 100 likes? I remember myself commenting on my friend’s post with my gay profile picture and my friend simply typed “wtf!” Oh and Happy Birthday Gabriel =)

Our first outing HPB outing. Glendon Laura Darren Meiyi and me happily enjoying a steamboat at ECP before everyone turned up. Every time I pass by MBS, Sentosa, ECP, I remember. The F1 road we cycled on that later I would invade during Chingay aha. The rats. Joyce stuffing her mouth full of white bread. The shaky bridge ChoongYee was screaming her lungs out on. Glendon being the main perpetrator trying to shake it off its hinges. Those weird ginger bread thingys with unusual tits. Cycling pass MBS with a beautiful sunrise on the horizon. I guess it’s not that I remember, rather how can I forget?

Was all this before or after our holiday movie filming? I can’t even remember. I remember Gab’s awesome acting. I remember Laura always having to shoot multiple times. The cleaning auntie Oli always popping up at places where if I saw in a movie i’ll be left in a state of wtfness. The 3 bimbos, acting like true bimbos. The video, the brainchild of Joelynn. I still have the Like the K6 soundtrack and videos. Maybe I’ll compile it this holiday just for a laugh.

Then came Open House. I remember writing a whole lot of nonsense in the proposal with Glendon. Sketches done by I’ve got no idea who, I think it was Joyce. Working our butts off those during those 5 days of construction. I remember Glendon Laura and me were the only ones working on the frame over 2 nights. Where were u other aholes? Nah kidding u’re all forgiven. Then the main structure that didn’t resemble the proposal a single bit. Heck, we just went with the flow and got the job done didn’t we? Jordan breaking the friggin’ key of the lorry. The 2 good Samaritans that night. Hiding under those huge cardboards on the lorry on the way to the MPSH. Getting high on helium. Little birds, clouds and the huge arrow the Eblock girls scavenged.. Moving the tape *ahem just a few inches to both sides. Several, maybe. Twin Ronald’s screening process. I kept exchanging glances with him haha. How can I forget?

In-between open house and CBB? Hmm let me think. I remember smashing cake in the face of then-new-hpb-member Jordan. More like applying cake on his face actually. I remember ChoongYee simply refusing to stand beside me when we were taking a photo then, somehow sensing I had more cake in my hand. So poor Jordan got double. I remember ChoongYee still getting cake in the end though. Can’t remember where I got more. I remember someone shutting the door so Joyce would be stuck at the front door and getting some cake too. I remember Jordan’s room in boxes after that haha!

Before we knew it we were going Yipeekiyeah EXAMS ARE OVER! At different times though. Ronald G was the last to end on a Friday and we were having a go at CBB on Monday. I tried fighting for a later start date for him. Nah I’m lying I wanted a friggin’ break for myself aha. 2 weeks to plan and execute a camp. I’ve done it before, not on such a scale with considerably few people though. Some crazy games we came up with, forever changing and evolving the way we wanted it to, no restrictions. This is OUR camp. We could work until 2-3am? Wth?! I know of previous batches playing mahjong and L4D till that time! I guess this is what we get given the short period we had. We worked our butts off, did a good job, and had a load of fun in the process.

The epic nightwalk. Twin Ronald standing in the props room looking at the Cheong Sam hanging there lifeless. His exact words, “we need to find some way to make it move” He came up with that ingenious idea. A friggin’ flying cheongsam. I know its not a cheongsam, cheongsams are for girls, then again I’ve got no idea what that thing was called I just knew it scared the crap outta me. I am still super thankful to all the ghosts, 5 friggin’ hours putting on making up and doing their stuff in their respective rooms, the bouncers and all too. Superb SP planning thanks to the SP peeps Ronald and Laura. I’ve still got no idea how everything worked aha. Honestly, I love the SP video I made haha. I made it, but the ideas were all Darren’s and Ronald’s right? Nothing on my part at all so I deserve no credit for it. Apart from doing the dirty work of smashing it all together, and adding a few songs from my playlist haha.

Shuffling everyday. That has got to count for something right?

Before we knew it we were at the end. Meals were eaten, games were played, Mass Dance was danced, awesomely so. Credit to Cheryl of course. Then it was our “final” meeting on the mpsh stage. ChoongYee Joyce having already departed. Sounds like they’re gonna die. Maybe they will in their respective overseas countries.

If I had said the things I’m about to on the mpsh stage I know Bora would have won the bet there and then; the bet that no one would cry during the whole course of HPB. We still lost though, Glendon and me. I guess we should have made it clear with him.

Tears of happiness don’t count.

Darren
The boss. I bet you took a lot of crap for us behind the scenes. I wouldn’t know but I guess I would expect that. Always calm on the job, knowing what to do at the right time. Never failing to crack a joke or two. Now when I look back I guess we all have u to thank for keeping the team forever chillax and having fun while getting the job done. You brought us all together and I guess we mainly have you to thank for our whole experience. So thanks! =) Stop dancing and play more takraw!

Nadiah
The lady boss. I can sense the angst in her sometimes when she goes, “alright guys lets focus!” whenever too much crap starts coming out of our mouths during meetings. Efficient and smart, always giving ideas that makes thing better and easier. Probably helped out with a lot of the crap happening behind the scenes with that voice of hers. Together with MeiYi always looking out for our welfare, though to not much success. We did whatever we wanted when we wanted haha. Yes we can all tell u cared for us. Thanks Nad. And Stop emoing! (if u still are) Maybe a choc banana can cheer u up.

MeiYi
What does MeiYi do? I’ve got no clue. All I know is that she turns up now and then for us to bully. Thanks for that. Always defending others. Most of the time at least. Always telling me to chill and let others do some work like I’m taking too much. I’m not one to push away work, thanks for always looking out for us during the whole duration of everything. Really like a mum to us the whole time.

Ronald Koh
Forever calm and composed. I guess that’s why u can play as such an effective defender in soccer. I wonder if u have any experience in camps, cause it feels like you have years of experience behind you, a vibe only a handful of people ever gave me. I could learn to be as chill as you. Always knowing whats going on, whats going wrong, how to fix things. Clear, precise, not afraid to voice out opinions. Here is one person that I’m sure can head any comm well. Respect. Epic times running around the 2^nd floor of the mpsh for nightwalk haha. I’ll remember the flying cheongsam for life. I can somewhat see and sense the difference between you and your brother now haha, like some kinda 6^th sense this-is-the-hpb-twin feeling. More soccer and takraw in the future man!

Joelynn
Always providing a new perspective on things. We have u to thank for some games and the starting storyline that got the ball rolling right at the very start. A creative spark when needed, not afraid to voice out your own opinion. Now that u’ve got hall prod to work on, let ur brain run free there and entertain us =)

Laura
Always eager to do try new stuff. Always eager to help out. Forever a source of enthusiasm for the team. If what Ronald G says is true then u pretty much handled most of the SP stuff yourself. The precise planning, looking ahead to what might go wrong, making sure stuff doesn’t go wrong. Though honestly I still don’t have a clue what happened during SP games, I merely glanced at all the tedious paperwork, I know it was executed awesomely. Always acting shy during filming and everything, then during SP stuff could grab the mike and parade around the mpsh happily doing stupid voices. Act only this wondergirl, though we know she can’t act for nuts.

ChoongYee
Choong Yee is useless. Physically at least. Honestly, this little girl surprised me the most over the whole duration of HPB. First impressions were that she was an anorexic ah tiong bimbo. Though actually her head is full of awesome ideas, though mostly involving people getting dirty or getting embarrassed; but she loves it. Its no secret that most of the games was her idea, apart from charades. Her experience in camps really showed during CBB. Always wanting to get work done. I guess the whole programs crew felt that way. Everyone working non-stop and not daring to stop.

Joyce
She loves to stress herself out with work, be it school crap or HPB stuff. Smart, sharp, bitchy. What more can you ask for haha. She always starts something with “ohhhhhhh yaaaaa!” then she’ll wag her finger a few times with a huge-eye expression. She took a lot for the HPB publicity side during Open House, on top of all her essays and USP stuff here and there. She can take amazing amounts of work without cracking.

Together, Choong Yee and Joyce could stir up a storm in an empty room. They’re bickering always a constant source of entertainment. Everywhere. During night cycling, during any planning, during open house, during mass dance, even during any simple mealtimes. If these two were a cartoon they’d be Pinky and the Brain. I’ll let them fight out who wants to be who.

Marianne
If she wants to sleep she’ll sleep until woken up. If she wants to eat she’ll eat until there’s nothing left to chew on. Unfortunately for us during CBB planning all she wanted to do was work. And there was no end to the work until the end of CBB. During all the pre-exam studying she’d always give the super tired face, always falling asleep on her notes. During HPB stuff she’d look tired as well, but she’d be typing stuff non-stop, checking and rechecking campers and facil details. Calling people as replacements, doing a whole load of other crap. I’m sure she, like me, wishes she could channel the same kinda work output to studying haha. An awesome publicity chair for CBB, getting the job done with no fuss at all. A true example of Cannot Be Bothered. I’m pretty sure her favourite word is “Anything”. Also probably the most responsible person in HPB, not only in HPB but I guess it kinda channels to everything she does.

Ronald G
Fellow Malaysian. Still happily running off to Biz camp at this very moment. It seems this guy’s enthusiasm for camps never die. You say Laura did a lot of the thinking, then again credit to you for knowing what to buy and doing all the other dirty work, packing and stuff. With any part of the whole plan missing nothing would have been done aye? I apologise too, for I never read the SP thingy haha. From the start I thought Glendon Darren Nad and me would be roaming around during SP games. The shock I got when I found out I was a friggin’ station IC? Wtf? I had to tell people like Zeya and Gay “hey, I’m not too sure with what to do how about you just have fun with the couples?” haha! I guess we can all thank you for getting every single crazy one of us down to the gym and starting this Health Promotion Board. Credit to you for thinking of the SP video. It’s really quite some good shit haha! Get your head ready for some takraw too man!

Cheryl
The person behind the mass dance. I’m glad I found u that chori chori song, and u made it ur own and more awesome than ever. It’s surprising how many times it’s been danced after some drinks have went around haha! I remember times in SR2 while everyone sat around doing their own work and you were in your own world listening to the mass dance song and choreoing in your head. Thing was it kinda wasn’t in your head and u kept doing funny little jerking motions like someone having a bad dream haha! The only dancer in HPB (ChoongYee doesn’t count) and probably the most natural bimbotic person too haha. Thanks for planning all the post CBB stuff, though I never turn up. May your mass dance live on forever haha. Now that I think of it I probably still can do 50% of the whole thing.

Gabriel
The cool dude of the pack. Dubbed the Japanese pornstar, this architect in the making is the main source for all our designs and stuff. The flyers, camp T-Shirts, videos. On top of all that a drama mama when acting. Maybe u should try out for hall production haha. Always going to the studio, coming back in the dead of night just to help make a trophy. Insisting everyone else went to rest while you finished the trophy yourself. Running off to meet printing companies and designers al the time. A sincere thanks man. Without you CBB, Open house, probably everything in HPB would have lost its colour and attractiveness. Enough late nights doing videos, designing and crap man, time for a well deserved rest this holiday.

When life gives Glendon a Lemon, he’d say wtf I didn’t order this. Hard headed, never-say-die attitude. Just the friend needed to slap some sense into you at times. A natural performer. A friend you can count on to talk the most cock with. He likes spending money on things he deem worthy, like an airzooka or some new random drink. I find it funny when he gets angsty. He finds it stupid when I get angsty. All the nonsense we shared over the past year, not only in HPB. Rooms we wrecked, all the shit stirring, plastering someone’s door. Suppers, COT. I look forward to more awesome times in the year to come man.

Dubbed the next HPB chair haha! For some reason it seems this guy has the shittiest luck. Lucky for our entertainment though. The latest addition to HPB. Food IC for the whole CBB. Yet another guy who can talk the most cock when needed. Then again he is another one who’d suck it up and get the job done with minimal fuss. The fussing came later actually, after the job was done. Now still coming and going from hall doing flag work. U deserve a holiday man. Wait another year haha. Then again, if u’re gonna be the next HPB chair, wait two years instead.

Who can forget these 2 as well? The way Jon took charge with simply emailing everyone about the fairytale theme thingy after the first meeting made me knew we had a natural leader in the group. Always taking initiative to get things done, during filming as well. Always eager to lend a hand to help others. If you were still in hall I’m sure you’d be everyone’s go-to-guy man. Thanks for everything.
Olivia, always blur and doing peace signs at everyone haha. I remember she was the only person apart from Glendon I talked to before our first meeting cause I helped her during dating game with Chris Cheow haha. For some reason coming to my room and asking for my help at that time. Yet another one forever looking dam NUA. Coulda been best friends with Malan for that matter. Too bad you couldn’t be around for CBB! I’m sure you woulda loved it.

CAMP BLUE BLOOD 10/11 was really a krazy krazy tale for me, it was like a whirlwind of nostalgia and bitter-sweet feelings as the three days and two nights flashed past. It was just so amazing, as memories of when I was a camper as well, flooded my mind, how I was greeted at the mrt station, the warm welcome at the KR lobby, all the fun and laughter at station/pool/war games despite the heat. Looking back at the end of the camp, it was all so worth it, seeing the smiles on all you freshly blue-blooded freshmen of KR Hall.

To the freshies: Hope you all enjoyed the camp, and this is truly just the beginning of what hall life is about. Am really happy to see you guys organising BG outings and so on, and coming for rag auditions together as a BG, reminds me of last time! See you young faces around hall alright!

To my team of 10/11 (HPB): thank you for all your hard work despite having so little time after exams, a sincere thankyou and I give each and everyone of you my utmost respect for your individuality and effort. Job well done guys!! So proud of you all. HPB 4-ever!!

HEY YOU BLUEBLOODED PEOPLE!

Hope every single one of you had as much fun during the camp as we had when we were planning it :D All the smiles on all your faces made us feel so accomplished and gave us a great sense of achievement. Even though the camp has ended, it's not over! Time to sign up for hall stay and put KR as your first choice if you haven't done so. Camp Blueblood only marks the beginning of a true KRazy Tale. I see many of the BGs have already organized outings and meet-ups! As one of the organizers of the camp, it brings tears to my eyes to see the BGs get so close. Awwwwwww... Ok not so exaggerating but it really made HPB feel so touched :') Remembering all the clueless faces when all of you entered the lobby of KR, receiving a warm welcome from the Kent Ridgeans where they cheered like monkeys, queuing up to take your name tags and registering, friendly seniors bringing you to your rooms and finally seated you in a circle of strangers whom you would've never met if you didn't come for camp. AND NOW! Many of you are meeting up with your BGs, talking rubbish to each other on facebook, commenting on silly photos etc etc. It's amazing how much the mere 3 days of camp have bonded everyone :)

It just dawned upon me suddenly

the end of these exams marks the end of 1 year in KentRidgeHall

i'd like to look back at the start of everything,

all the fond memories.

Everyone has their own story of how they came to KR

Siblings, peer pressure, or just pure coincidence

for me i knew about KR since i was in secondary school

and i knew back then i wanted to be here

now that i am here i can't imagine a life without KR

what would uni life be without such an amazing bunch of ppl,

everything we've learnt and gone through in KR?

the people we've met, the craziness i know no other place in the world can offer

friends and neighbours who joke with u after a lousy day

jamming, sports, hours talking rubbish / HTHT,

suppers, impromptu outings

all the crazy pranking :)

simple things that'll put a smile on ur face

simple things that get u through tough times

After all the stressful muggin' for exams,

some of u have ended, some are still going thru the motions (like me..)

and i know of some who haven't even started..

i can't help but look ahead to a new beginning

and where it'll all begin for a new bunch of lucky freshies :)

HI EVERYONE!!

Sorry we haven't been updating the blog that often, it's exams period!! *pulls hair :o*
Currently, NUS students are having their exams. It's the official start of exams this week. Last week we had our recess week which is spent on studying, procrastinating, slacking, worrying, dreaming about post-exam activities and of course CAMP BLUEBLOOD!! But time was mostly spent studying haha. During the exam period, special rooms are opened up in KR for studying. Some of these rooms are the Reading Room, SR1, SR2, SR3, Special Projects Room, Computer Room etc. If you think you can't study in your rooms, these places are available with AIRCON :D for you to study in. It is really conducive because they are like pseudo libraries. But if you think studying in hall is not conducive enough, there are always the libraries in school! KR people normally visit the NUS Business library because it's just opposite of KR. And the library opens on weekends too! If you're wondering what exam period is like in NUS, here are some pictures of 'mugging' scenes.

But then again, your subconscious reminds you that it is all probably just a figment of your imagination and in 3 seconds you will be rudely awakened by your irritating morning alarm. And the fall is over. You find yourself submerged in a heap of dirty laundry, but as you look up all you can make out is mysterious white figure quickly disappearing down a long and dark passageway. Everyone wonders how Girl Wonder Laura Jean Lynn Tan pulls off being an all-round sportswoman (in like..everything including cable ski-ing), engine kid(you know the horrors), committed committee member (lead actress and love interest of two suitors in our upcoming Adventures of Dorkie), talented crooner (who can forget her trademark"hakuna matata!"), Pro Hat-Thrower (stealing all the air-time during our Chingay Performance with her... hat-throwing and well... slipping prowess) and yet have time to chill and spend time with her friends and family outside hall.....

In this short excerpt we take a look at the Life Of Laura as she sheds some light into her absolutely KRazy lifestyle:

Hi there! I’m Laura, studying Mechanical Engineering and here are my commitments in hall and out!

TADA! You might think I’m crazy but I actually chose to do all these stuff. Why, you may ask? Hmmm I guess it’s just out of interest and passion! And ofcourse there’s always school. I’m not a superhuman ok, somehow if you handle your time well I think you will be able to do anything you want. Just a bit of sacrifices and setting your priorities right should make all of the above doable. So this is my typical day in hall:

Anytime between 8am – 6pm: School

6pm – 11pm: Trainings/ friendlies/ meetings/ choir practices

After 11pm: Homework/ supper/ HTHT sessions/ Chilling

Doesn’t sound too bad right? HAHA. I skip meals sometimes when I get too busy but there’s always supper to make up for it! J Let’s just say I will always have something to do every day and I like it that way. Sometimes my commitments do clash but you just have to choose which is more important and you can even go for all, just go for a bit of everything, win-win situation J Ok I’m not the best example to look at for time management neither am I the best student in hall but I’m still learning as time goes by! So basically, incoming freshies out there do try what you want to do because you’ll never know what you may be good at and what you may enjoy doing! And university is the time for you to try new things so don’t be afraid to try :D Besides, there are always the friendly seniors in KR to help you if you need any advice.

HOW TO PLAN AN AWESOME BIRTHDAY SURPRISE FOR YOUR NEIGHBOUR :D

Even as CNY and V-day comes to a close, that doesn't mean the lovin' has to stop! Cheryl Woong gives us some insights and an easy-to-follow idiot-proof steps to planning an awesome birthday surprise and show some love for that neighbour of yours! :D

Step 1:

A few days before the actual day, gather in someone’s room and start doing the door decorations. Put in lots of neighbourly love and effort into making them (: Have a little htht session ‘cause that’s how you bond with your neighbours!

The unsuspecting birthday girl!

Step 2:

On the night before the actual day, just about half an hour before the clock strikes 12, lure the unsuspecting birthday girl away by exclaiming: “I’m so hungry, do you wanna go for supper at Ah Seng??” If Ah Seng is closed, go to Sheares Hall. Just do anything and everything to ensure she’s nowhere near her room. Remember to ask the rest who’re preparing for the surprise if they want supper!

Step 3:

On the way to Sheares (or Al Ameen or Fong Seng), chit chat and pretend everything is normal. You may be so distracted by texting the rest to make sure everything is well prepared. Pray hard that the queue is long so that you’ll delay even longer. (Remember to get forks for the birthday cake! Sneak them into the plastic bag when she’s not looking to avoid suspicion.)

Step 4:

Make your way back slowly to KR. Insist on walking the sheltered linkways through A Blk then to B then C and make excuses that you don’t want to get caught in the rain (even though the drizzle is so slight). To stall for even more time, pretend you don’t know what floor the linkway to B Blk is on and just let her look for it. Walk down the stairs and say that you have to exercise instead of taking the lift. Along the way, look at the different names on the doors and make comments. Stop by the photos pasted on the walls of B Blk 2^nd floor and laugh at them (oops). All these will give those in her room more time to decorate.

Step 5:

Once you reach C Blk lift lobby, text the rest. Ensure that they are already hiding in her room. Let her stand outside her door and admire the decorations. When she’s done, she’ll open her door and everyone bursts into the birthday song and present her with the cake, giving her a pleasant surprise :D (note: do not, I repeat, DO NOT ask her to open her door. This will definitely arouse suspicion.) Do the necessary things that you usually do at birthday celebrations and remember to camwhore :D

Dramafest 2011: DAM(N) FUNNY INDEED.

Disclaimer: please excuse the random insertions of lines from the script.Withdrawal symptoms, yo.

Despite the initial difficulties faced along the way, Dramafest 2011went forth with A BAM! and was indeed DAM(N) FUNNY. Our very own KR-directed and acted script, "Lord of the Longkangs" was a crowd winner, capturing the laughs, hearts, cheers and applause of the many(well... majority were from our very own KR family..but that's all that matters anyway).

Grendon "Ladcliff" Wee undisputedly stole the RimeRight with his stage debut as himself...a.k.a the Humsup GangLeader of the 963 Gang, with the audience pLacticaRRy cLacking up at even the twitch of his eyebLow or his tLademark "hehehehes". With his convincing Ah Beng-Hits-On-Chiobu scenes (some pervy sniffing involved), some say it's natural talent while others just say it's...natural.

Our Chiobu, Ms Fiona "Lah-bak-kah" Wong indeed exemplified exemplary tolerance towards her dedicated sniffer/hero, Ladcliff, although her cries of "Help Me!" were probably more directed at another Certain A-blocker in the crowd. Nonetheless her "1,2,3,4...Let's Pray!" invention incurred much laughter, connecting with the audience on many levels (especially those in Chingay...).

Lah-bak-kah was promptly given the evil eye by Aminah "Ah Mah" Diab, Deputy Leader of the 963 gang who oozed confidence and jealousy onstage with her attempts to get to Ladcliffe. And for those who think a bunch of keys are totally unromantic, think again! Who can forget how Ah Ma brought a whole new meaning to "key-ssing" and whipped up a star performance.

"then again..it could just be...a coincidence!"

Don't try this at home, kids.

The twins, HPB's very own Jasper "Lontong-i'm-hungry" Wong and Darren "Shortbottom" Ng brought brr-freezing-cold humour to a whole new level, KR-style. While Honorary Member No.1 Lontong perfected his know-it-all character to a T, Shortbottom entertained the crowd from a different angle, spending most of his time on stage in a horizontal position (SIAN TTM!). Nonetheless, together, the duo obviously tickled the audience with their spastic antics that made everything from Char Kuay Tiao to the Marina Barrage a joke to remember. Indeed, they proved that birth control and...well, life in a longkang had uncanny similarities - something always happens when you least expect it (:

And indeed something really always happens when you least expect it - We all know that the highly-anticipated Arunav "Mr Nas Silamak" Bora was going to be guest-starring, but he really got the crowd roaring when he finally appeared in scene 5 as Mr Nas Silamak, psychotic breeder of rats in his coconuts. To top it all off, he was zhammed with gothic eye-liner, although it seems like his Mr KR charisma still shone through though, with the audience going wild and cheering their hearts out.

Indeed, our initial fears that some jokes would fall flat were dispersed when we saw the huge turn-out of KR supporters. It was especially heartwarming to see so many familiar faces in the crowd and their encouraging response (random shouts or just laughing at about anything and everything) definitely gave the actors (especially first-time ones) the confidence they needed to shine :)

Besides "Lord of the Longkangs", KR's abundant talents include talented script-writer KR script-writer Audrey Megan Koh who directed The provocative "Lasts of Lusts" featuring the Sexiest Stripper in the Whole Wye Wor, Ronald Ian Goonting (who also wrote posted our last blogpost):

"I've such a Wun-da-foo Bor-dey!"

Audrey's play was co-directed by Nash Ng, who also happens to be our favourite and ever-so-secksi Elliot-Tan-Seck- An (does hip-thrusting motions) in the Eusoff play, "Left Over Life". Seck An has indeed proven to be more than just an Adrogyneous Cranky Old Man, with his accurate portrayal of Certain Characters in real life, and who in real life is dealing with issues of closure at the moment...

It is no doubt that KR's homegrown actors were greatly sought-after, landing prominent roles in the non-KR plays. I'm sure all will remember the gay Luke Vijay's flasher-style "BAM!" and his fellow speed dating partners John and Richy. Danial Faizal showing his dark side as 'Death' whilst simultaneously putting his Steppers training to good use with his astounding table leap. We also cannot forget Joseph Chin and the great tech crew team that played an essential role to make this a rousing success!

Having the rare chance and privilege to work with up and coming star director of "Lord of the Longkangs", Joelynn "Laticia" Wong as co-director (who schemingly roped me in hahaha) has indeed provided me with an awesome opportunity to learn about what goes on behind the scenes of putting up a play, which definitely isn't as easy as it seems! That includes months of hard work, rehearsals late into the night, vettings, bump-ins, technical runs, admidst the whole flurry of IHGs and other commitments, and even settling the costumes, props all on our own... (GAO MENG AH!!!!)

But looking back, despite the tumultuous journey and everyone's numerous commitments, I'm definitely glad we decided to do this, not just doing KR proud but creating memories that we'll look back on:) Even being stuck at the UCC for 3 full days definitely helped the cast to bond and at the end of the day, we indeed came up with so many new ideas and improvisations that made the play as awesome as it is! Once, again, what makes KR so unique is that no matter what it is, there will be fellow KentRidgeans behind us, so

THANK YOU KR FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT! (and being armed with flowers and balloons too)!!!

What Men Want: 5 Things Guys Wished Girls Knew

With V-day just around the corner and hopeful girls and boys rushing to buy presents (or get a date) for that special day, resident guru Ronald Ian Goonting decides to survey the ground and has some wise words of advice for the fairer sex:

1. You are much prettier without all that make up

GsGirls, it seems that most guys don’t actually fancy a girl with a lot of make up. In fact they actually can’t stop complaining about how girls try so hard to look pretty and it ends up like a full-on painted face when all they have to do is just wash their face, let their hair down, and be their self. Come on, where has the whole idea of true beauty gone to? It is not what colour your lipstick that you use, or how thick your eyeliner is, but rather it is the confidence that you have which portrays a girl’s true beauty. So girls, when a guy sees a girl with make up, she may look pretty but there is always the comment “ah it’s the make up”. So don’t let that happen to you, just be yourself and be confident, lose the make up because you are beautiful just the way you are.

2. Stop saying you are fat when you are not

Girls, in hall, supper is like a given. That is because dinner is at 6pm and with all the activities going on in hall there is no way you won’t be hungry by 10pm or 11pm. However, many of times we hear girls going “I don’t want to eat, I am fat” or “I feel fat, I shouldn’t be eating”. The best part is that these girls are all NOT FAT. Most of them are actually skinny! So please, guys don’t want to hear you complain about how fat you are when actually you are not, unless ofcourse you are doing it to fish for compliments, then that’s a whole different issue. I don’t think most girls say they are fat to fish for compliments, its just one of those deep dark girl mysteries about their self-image. Lets get real, not many of us have washboard abs, so just because you don’t have one, it does not mean that you are fat. Girls, guys don’t like hearing girls whine about their weight and most importantly do not let others tell you that you are fat. If a guy says you are fat, then he is a jerk and he deserves a kick in the nuts. I realize the problem isn’t so much on whether people think you are fat but rather it’s a personal issue that most girls just need to overcome. So guys please do your job and reassure them. Thanks.

3. When a guy ditches his ‘bros’ for you, it shows he really treasures you.

Girls, you have no idea how important a guy’s bro is to him. When you have a fight with him or if you two are on a break, all a guy has is his bros. A bro always has another bro’s back no matter what and the worse thing to do is to ditch a bro for a girl. However, this is a delicate situation. A true bro always understands when another bro ditches his bros for a girl if and only if the bros think that the other bro is really into that girl. And so he is forgiven. Therefore girls, when a guy ditches his guy friends for you, please don’t take it lightly. It is a big deal for the guy because it means that he is really into you, so please do show him that you appreciate it.

4. . 4. Guys have feelings too, don’t hurt them

Girls, guys may seem to be all tough and emotionless on the outside but on the inside we are very emotional human beings. Guys can sometimes be more emotional than girls, its rare, but it does happen. So what I am trying to say is that, even if we don’t show that we care about you often or even if we don’t usually express how we feel inside, it does not mean we don’t care or don’t feel anything. We just like to maintain that macho-ness. Yes we do cry, yes we are capable of crying so please when you decide to make a guy jealous or dump a guy, think twice. We may not show it upfront but we do get hurt.

5. A guy has to have friends who are girls, he isn’t cheating on you

Girls, when a guy hangs out with a girl, it does not mean he likes her or he is cheating on you. Guys have friends who are girls too, some who they are actually close to. The last thing you want do is to stop a guy from seeing his girl-friends or even worse make him choose between you and his female friends. That just shows how insecure you are and that you do not trust the guy at all, it really is a turn off by the way. So please girls, don’t take away his friends. As I said before, if he chooses to ditch his bros for you and only you, then it is for sure that he really treasures you more than anything, so there is nothing to worry about.

So don't worry girls if you forgot your make up, feel fat or think that your boyfriend is cheating on you. He probably treasures you very much :) And for those out and about, better make a move soon! :)

It all came down to one moment

as do everything else in life

its always that one chance

one moment to give your all

make or break

I'm 2 sports down and 2 more to go

already

i'm physically, mentally, psychologically and emotionally drained

taking into account all the other commitments i have

But don't get me wrong

i ain't complaining

To me,

every moment training

fighting

pushing myself

has been worth it

Because there i was on the playing field

knowing that i wasn't alone

i was with people whom i have come to know and love

they are my friends and teammates i would go that extra mile for

supporters whom i knew would be there braving the

weather till the very end

to do what i like

and like what i do

Once upon a IHG

Its been weeks since the annual, anticipated IHG kick-started. And KR, as usual went off with a roaring start, seeing Sepak Takraw enter the finals, only to lose to Temasek hall for the glory of the gold. Our Tennis team doing us proud thereafter, retaining the gold and silver medals for guys and girls respectively. The other games went on, and despite the intermittent rainy weather and some lackluster performances, I believe what brought us this far was our supporters, showing undying support and always being there.

Having played both Takraw and Floorball games, I would say the atmosphere for our hall have been one of the greatest. It was as if the drumbeat and that of our hearts in synch as one, and upon hearing your name being shouted, you just feel like it was all worth it. It was like 'YES I'M GONNA WIN IT, GONNA WIN IT FOR KR!!' And despite the losing 3-2 to Eusoff Hall for the first Floorball preliminary match, the supporters stood their ground till the final minute, cheering for us. I guess this is the spirit that couldn't be found elsewhere, for it is not just cheering for your hall, we cheer on for our friends.

24 Hours to Boarding - first vetting!

And so, the Dance Production ensemble had our first vetting for next year's hall production last Saturday!

Instead of a musical like previous years, we decided to change it to a dance production for the first time, to be held in early March next year. All dancers are involved in the production, either as the main cast or ensemble, while auditions for the ensemble were held for residents. Practices began in October, and the frequency increased to twice weekly after examinations ended. To me, it has been an incredible journey so far, seeing how I almost did not make it into KR dance.

Hours of practices for an event that will be a first in KR history (and hopefully not the last!), there was some fear as to how it would turn out. Initially, I thought that it would be quite stressful as most of us are involved in more than one item and it would be a mad rush. Yet it was really heartwarming to watch the second technical run flow so smoothly as the music played continuously. One could really feel the passion coming from each dancer as each item was performed (:

Although the dances were not fully choreographed, and even we as the ensemble did not know the story line, it was a really proud moment for all of us to see the different dances coming together. Of course, at this stage, most dances are not perfect yet. But I'm pretty sure that we will work hard for the next few months and put up an awesome show next year.

Why?

Simply because we are KR (:
