Kent Ridge Hall - A Place We Call Home: Our Journey. Start to End.

It’s been nearly a month since CBB ended. Everything is now locked up in a little compartment of my head. Nothing comes to mind until I sit down and really think about it. Where did all the time go? It’s a special feeling, something I’ve never experienced before. The sense of achievement; simply from making people, happy. Smiles on everyone’s faces at the end of a long tiring day. Stories u hear from the facils about their craziness and fun. I trust that they are true. So many moments in my head that come up during random conversations with other Kent Ridgeans, always along the line “Oh yeah I remember that!” followed by a round of laughter. I remember plenty of stuff. I wish I could say the same when it comes to school work though. Bottom line is we SHOWED SOME STANDARD!

I hate camp endings. The final gathering that always happens, saying what u needed to say; except I bet no one really did say the things they wanted to say on the mpsh stage, at least I know I didn’t. So this is me saying thanks, slow and simple with all this post-CBB time we’ve got; with these words meant personally for every single one of you =) A good opportunity to thank those two crazy ladies overseas as well.

I remember the start so well, our first meeting. A few lucky people managed to save their facebook. Jon was one of them and I remember him taking lead at screwing people over on facebook aha. Olivia still owes me her facebook. I remember Glendon and me going all the way to C block, turning on her comp with the help of the older Olivia and trying to get back at her then. I remember Joyce and Joseph’s overnight facebook relationship stirring an epic shitstorm of comments. I was too busy blocking Joyce from the computer I forget about Oli’s forfeit. I remember Laura’s relationship change gathering like 100 likes? I remember myself commenting on my friend’s post with my gay profile picture and my friend simply typed “wtf!” Oh and Happy Birthday Gabriel =)

Our first outing HPB outing. Glendon Laura Darren Meiyi and me happily enjoying a steamboat at ECP before everyone turned up. Every time I pass by MBS, Sentosa, ECP, I remember. The F1 road we cycled on that later I would invade during Chingay aha. The rats. Joyce stuffing her mouth full of white bread. The shaky bridge ChoongYee was screaming her lungs out on. Glendon being the main perpetrator trying to shake it off its hinges. Those weird ginger bread thingys with unusual tits. Cycling pass MBS with a beautiful sunrise on the horizon. I guess it’s not that I remember, rather how can I forget?

Was all this before or after our holiday movie filming? I can’t even remember. I remember Gab’s awesome acting. I remember Laura always having to shoot multiple times. The cleaning auntie Oli always popping up at places where if I saw in a movie i’ll be left in a state of wtfness. The 3 bimbos, acting like true bimbos. The video, the brainchild of Joelynn. I still have the Like the K6 soundtrack and videos. Maybe I’ll compile it this holiday just for a laugh.

Then came Open House. I remember writing a whole lot of nonsense in the proposal with Glendon. Sketches done by I’ve got no idea who, I think it was Joyce. Working our butts off those during those 5 days of construction. I remember Glendon Laura and me were the only ones working on the frame over 2 nights. Where were u other aholes? Nah kidding u’re all forgiven. Then the main structure that didn’t resemble the proposal a single bit. Heck, we just went with the flow and got the job done didn’t we? Jordan breaking the friggin’ key of the lorry. The 2 good Samaritans that night. Hiding under those huge cardboards on the lorry on the way to the MPSH. Getting high on helium. Little birds, clouds and the huge arrow the Eblock girls scavenged.. Moving the tape *ahem just a few inches to both sides. Several, maybe. Twin Ronald’s screening process. I kept exchanging glances with him haha. How can I forget?

In-between open house and CBB? Hmm let me think. I remember smashing cake in the face of then-new-hpb-member Jordan. More like applying cake on his face actually. I remember ChoongYee simply refusing to stand beside me when we were taking a photo then, somehow sensing I had more cake in my hand. So poor Jordan got double. I remember ChoongYee still getting cake in the end though. Can’t remember where I got more. I remember someone shutting the door so Joyce would be stuck at the front door and getting some cake too. I remember Jordan’s room in boxes after that haha!

Before we knew it we were going Yipeekiyeah EXAMS ARE OVER! At different times though. Ronald G was the last to end on a Friday and we were having a go at CBB on Monday. I tried fighting for a later start date for him. Nah I’m lying I wanted a friggin’ break for myself aha. 2 weeks to plan and execute a camp. I’ve done it before, not on such a scale with considerably few people though. Some crazy games we came up with, forever changing and evolving the way we wanted it to, no restrictions. This is OUR camp. We could work until 2-3am? Wth?! I know of previous batches playing mahjong and L4D till that time! I guess this is what we get given the short period we had. We worked our butts off, did a good job, and had a load of fun in the process.

The epic nightwalk. Twin Ronald standing in the props room looking at the Cheong Sam hanging there lifeless. His exact words, “we need to find some way to make it move” He came up with that ingenious idea. A friggin’ flying cheongsam. I know its not a cheongsam, cheongsams are for girls, then again I’ve got no idea what that thing was called I just knew it scared the crap outta me. I am still super thankful to all the ghosts, 5 friggin’ hours putting on making up and doing their stuff in their respective rooms, the bouncers and all too. Superb SP planning thanks to the SP peeps Ronald and Laura. I’ve still got no idea how everything worked aha. Honestly, I love the SP video I made haha. I made it, but the ideas were all Darren’s and Ronald’s right? Nothing on my part at all so I deserve no credit for it. Apart from doing the dirty work of smashing it all together, and adding a few songs from my playlist haha.

Shuffling everyday. That has got to count for something right?

Before we knew it we were at the end. Meals were eaten, games were played, Mass Dance was danced, awesomely so. Credit to Cheryl of course. Then it was our “final” meeting on the mpsh stage. ChoongYee Joyce having already departed. Sounds like they’re gonna die. Maybe they will in their respective overseas countries.

If I had said the things I’m about to on the mpsh stage I know Bora would have won the bet there and then; the bet that no one would cry during the whole course of HPB. We still lost though, Glendon and me. I guess we should have made it clear with him.

Tears of happiness don’t count.

Darren
The boss. I bet you took a lot of crap for us behind the scenes. I wouldn’t know but I guess I would expect that. Always calm on the job, knowing what to do at the right time. Never failing to crack a joke or two. Now when I look back I guess we all have u to thank for keeping the team forever chillax and having fun while getting the job done. You brought us all together and I guess we mainly have you to thank for our whole experience. So thanks! =) Stop dancing and play more takraw!

Nadiah
The lady boss. I can sense the angst in her sometimes when she goes, “alright guys lets focus!” whenever too much crap starts coming out of our mouths during meetings. Efficient and smart, always giving ideas that makes thing better and easier. Probably helped out with a lot of the crap happening behind the scenes with that voice of hers. Together with MeiYi always looking out for our welfare, though to not much success. We did whatever we wanted when we wanted haha. Yes we can all tell u cared for us. Thanks Nad. And Stop emoing! (if u still are) Maybe a choc banana can cheer u up.

MeiYi
What does MeiYi do? I’ve got no clue. All I know is that she turns up now and then for us to bully. Thanks for that. Always defending others. Most of the time at least. Always telling me to chill and let others do some work like I’m taking too much. I’m not one to push away work, thanks for always looking out for us during the whole duration of everything. Really like a mum to us the whole time.

Ronald Koh
Forever calm and composed. I guess that’s why u can play as such an effective defender in soccer. I wonder if u have any experience in camps, cause it feels like you have years of experience behind you, a vibe only a handful of people ever gave me. I could learn to be as chill as you. Always knowing whats going on, whats going wrong, how to fix things. Clear, precise, not afraid to voice out opinions. Here is one person that I’m sure can head any comm well. Respect. Epic times running around the 2^nd floor of the mpsh for nightwalk haha. I’ll remember the flying cheongsam for life. I can somewhat see and sense the difference between you and your brother now haha, like some kinda 6^th sense this-is-the-hpb-twin feeling. More soccer and takraw in the future man!

Joelynn
Always providing a new perspective on things. We have u to thank for some games and the starting storyline that got the ball rolling right at the very start. A creative spark when needed, not afraid to voice out your own opinion. Now that u’ve got hall prod to work on, let ur brain run free there and entertain us =)

Laura
Always eager to do try new stuff. Always eager to help out. Forever a source of enthusiasm for the team. If what Ronald G says is true then u pretty much handled most of the SP stuff yourself. The precise planning, looking ahead to what might go wrong, making sure stuff doesn’t go wrong. Though honestly I still don’t have a clue what happened during SP games, I merely glanced at all the tedious paperwork, I know it was executed awesomely. Always acting shy during filming and everything, then during SP stuff could grab the mike and parade around the mpsh happily doing stupid voices. Act only this wondergirl, though we know she can’t act for nuts.

ChoongYee
Choong Yee is useless. Physically at least. Honestly, this little girl surprised me the most over the whole duration of HPB. First impressions were that she was an anorexic ah tiong bimbo. Though actually her head is full of awesome ideas, though mostly involving people getting dirty or getting embarrassed; but she loves it. Its no secret that most of the games was her idea, apart from charades. Her experience in camps really showed during CBB. Always wanting to get work done. I guess the whole programs crew felt that way. Everyone working non-stop and not daring to stop.

Joyce
She loves to stress herself out with work, be it school crap or HPB stuff. Smart, sharp, bitchy. What more can you ask for haha. She always starts something with “ohhhhhhh yaaaaa!” then she’ll wag her finger a few times with a huge-eye expression. She took a lot for the HPB publicity side during Open House, on top of all her essays and USP stuff here and there. She can take amazing amounts of work without cracking.

Together, Choong Yee and Joyce could stir up a storm in an empty room. They’re bickering always a constant source of entertainment. Everywhere. During night cycling, during any planning, during open house, during mass dance, even during any simple mealtimes. If these two were a cartoon they’d be Pinky and the Brain. I’ll let them fight out who wants to be who.

Marianne
If she wants to sleep she’ll sleep until woken up. If she wants to eat she’ll eat until there’s nothing left to chew on. Unfortunately for us during CBB planning all she wanted to do was work. And there was no end to the work until the end of CBB. During all the pre-exam studying she’d always give the super tired face, always falling asleep on her notes. During HPB stuff she’d look tired as well, but she’d be typing stuff non-stop, checking and rechecking campers and facil details. Calling people as replacements, doing a whole load of other crap. I’m sure she, like me, wishes she could channel the same kinda work output to studying haha. An awesome publicity chair for CBB, getting the job done with no fuss at all. A true example of Cannot Be Bothered. I’m pretty sure her favourite word is “Anything”. Also probably the most responsible person in HPB, not only in HPB but I guess it kinda channels to everything she does.

Ronald G
Fellow Malaysian. Still happily running off to Biz camp at this very moment. It seems this guy’s enthusiasm for camps never die. You say Laura did a lot of the thinking, then again credit to you for knowing what to buy and doing all the other dirty work, packing and stuff. With any part of the whole plan missing nothing would have been done aye? I apologise too, for I never read the SP thingy haha. From the start I thought Glendon Darren Nad and me would be roaming around during SP games. The shock I got when I found out I was a friggin’ station IC? Wtf? I had to tell people like Zeya and Gay “hey, I’m not too sure with what to do how about you just have fun with the couples?” haha! I guess we can all thank you for getting every single crazy one of us down to the gym and starting this Health Promotion Board. Credit to you for thinking of the SP video. It’s really quite some good shit haha! Get your head ready for some takraw too man!

Cheryl
The person behind the mass dance. I’m glad I found u that chori chori song, and u made it ur own and more awesome than ever. It’s surprising how many times it’s been danced after some drinks have went around haha! I remember times in SR2 while everyone sat around doing their own work and you were in your own world listening to the mass dance song and choreoing in your head. Thing was it kinda wasn’t in your head and u kept doing funny little jerking motions like someone having a bad dream haha! The only dancer in HPB (ChoongYee doesn’t count) and probably the most natural bimbotic person too haha. Thanks for planning all the post CBB stuff, though I never turn up. May your mass dance live on forever haha. Now that I think of it I probably still can do 50% of the whole thing.

Gabriel
The cool dude of the pack. Dubbed the Japanese pornstar, this architect in the making is the main source for all our designs and stuff. The flyers, camp T-Shirts, videos. On top of all that a drama mama when acting. Maybe u should try out for hall production haha. Always going to the studio, coming back in the dead of night just to help make a trophy. Insisting everyone else went to rest while you finished the trophy yourself. Running off to meet printing companies and designers al the time. A sincere thanks man. Without you CBB, Open house, probably everything in HPB would have lost its colour and attractiveness. Enough late nights doing videos, designing and crap man, time for a well deserved rest this holiday.

Glendon
When life gives Glendon a Lemon, he’d say wtf I didn’t order this. Hard headed, never-say-die attitude. Just the friend needed to slap some sense into you at times. A natural performer. A friend you can count on to talk the most cock with. He likes spending money on things he deem worthy, like an airzooka or some new random drink. I find it funny when he gets angsty. He finds it stupid when I get angsty. All the nonsense we shared over the past year, not only in HPB. Rooms we wrecked, all the shit stirring, plastering someone’s door. Suppers, COT. I look forward to more awesome times in the year to come man.

Jordan
Dubbed the next HPB chair haha! For some reason it seems this guy has the shittiest luck. Lucky for our entertainment though. The latest addition to HPB. Food IC for the whole CBB. Yet another guy who can talk the most cock when needed. Then again he is another one who’d suck it up and get the job done with minimal fuss. The fussing came later actually, after the job was done. Now still coming and going from hall doing flag work. U deserve a holiday man. Wait another year haha. Then again, if u’re gonna be the next HPB chair, wait two years instead.

Jon Chong and Olivia
Who can forget these 2 as well? The way Jon took charge with simply emailing everyone about the fairytale theme thingy after the first meeting made me knew we had a natural leader in the group. Always taking initiative to get things done, during filming as well. Always eager to lend a hand to help others. If you were still in hall I’m sure you’d be everyone’s go-to-guy man. Thanks for everything.
Olivia, always blur and doing peace signs at everyone haha. I remember she was the only person apart from Glendon I talked to before our first meeting cause I helped her during dating game with Chris Cheow haha. For some reason coming to my room and asking for my help at that time. Yet another one forever looking dam NUA. Coulda been best friends with Malan for that matter. Too bad you couldn’t be around for CBB! I’m sure you woulda loved it.
